What are we all about at Star Community Church? Well, it's pretty basic: We're about Christ and being His kind of people. That just about sums it up.
We get together around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings, with coffee and calories, for a great time of visiting and talking and laughing. And when we settle down a bit, we begin a terrific Bible study. We answer the easy questions, and the hard ones, we chew on and come up with the best answers we can. Sometimes, we simply have to say, "I don't know", and sometimes we'll get some answers later on. The kids have their own classes.
Then, usually at 10:45, we refill our coffee cups and grab a donut or two, and find a place to sit, either in a pew or at a table, and enjoy some great contemporary worship music, and maybe an old fashioned hymn or two.
After we sing for awhile we have what we call "open worship"; that's when people in the congregation can say whatever they feel they would like to say to all of us. They can pray, sing a song, read a poem or a Bible verse, ask for prayer for a need they have. Or, we sometimes sit silently and listen for some thought from God. At least it gives us a few minutes to slow down, catch our breath, and relax while we think about some pretty important stuff.
The sermon is both Biblical and inspirational. It is full of practical stuff that can help us deal with life as it comes. We don't have all the answers, but we're pretty ordinary people who are beginning to learn that we're not alone in this life. Like we said before, we're about Christ and being His kind of people.
After church, some of us don't like to go home to fix Sunday dinner, so we often head off to Sully's or Chuck-a Rama, or Applebee's; or somewhere else, as long as we don't have to cook. We love it when visitors at church come along with us.
